The unemployment rate inched up in Erie County in September, climbing from a seasonally adjusted 7.6 to 7.7 percent.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate in neighboring Crawford County fell from 7.8 to 7.7 percent, according to numbers released this morning by the state Department of Labor & Industry.

Despite the increase, Erie County’s unemployment rate has been below 8 percent for 12 consecutive months and was down three-tenths of a percentage point compared to September of 2011.

The month’s most substantial change was a predictable one: The end of summer brought the loss of 1,300 leisure and hospitality jobs. Employment in that sector fell to 15,100.
