The Economic Development Corp. of Erie County holds an awards dinner every year. But only four times since 1996 has the group presented the J. Robert Baldwin Community Service Award.

The EDCEC will do so for the fifth time on Jan. 17, presenting the award to former state Sen. Jane Earll, a Fairview Township Republican who served the 49th District for 16 years.

“The award is not annual,” said John Elliott, president of the EDCEC. “It is only given in special circumstances where the board feels that an individual has contributed to our community in ways over and above their occupational commitment.

Jack Munch, chairman of the group’s board, called Earll a driving force in the community.
“As Senator, Jane Earll brought numerous state resources to our area, and was a valiant advocate for her hometown,” he said.

Earll, 54, did not seek another term. She will be honored Jan. 17 at the Bayfront Convention Center.
