Presque Isle Gallery Coffeehouse, at the entrance to Presque Isle State Park, is closed.
The coffeehouse, in the former Joe Root’s Grill location at 35 Peninsula Drive, had been serving up creative coffees, salad, panini and soup since May 2008. P.I.G. Coffeehouse also showcased local art and performers.
It closed Jan. 22.
Owner Laurie Edwards could not be reached for comment Tuesday but on the coffeehouse website said that health issues and her inability to find a partner to share responsibilities for the coffeehouse are major reasons for the closing.
“The P.I.G. is suffering and we can’t continue on this level anymore,” Edwards said in a Jan. 21 posting that also thanked customers for their loyalty and patronage.
The coffeehouse had closed temporarily in early January but had reopened Jan. 13.
P.I.G. customers, plus artists and performers, are mourning the closing on the coffeehouse’s Facebook page.
“Why do all the good, honest, interesting, inspiring and just all round wonderful places close down?” Dennis Croxall posted Monday on Facebook. “We only really discovered the P.I.G. last year and were starting to be regulars. Great shame. …”
