A leadership change is coming for one of the region’s largest unions.

Roger Zaczyk, president of Local 506 of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers at GE Transportation, has lost his bid for re-election after serving two years.

Zaczyk, whose union represents more than 3,000 unionized employees at the company’s Lawrence Park plant, will remain in office until April 18.

Zaczyk, who has been with GE Transportation for 40 years, is being replaced by Scott Duke, a union steward who has been with the company for nearly 10 years.

Duke has served as a union steward and worked in the company’s propulsion division. Like Zaczyk and others before them, Duke will work full time in the union position.

“I will be honest,” Zaczyk said. “There were things I wanted to get done. But I’ve been voted out and that’s the way it is.”

Zaczyk expressed confidence in the man that will replace him.

“I think Scott will do good,” he said. “We’ve got a good team here.”
