Construction employment slips in Erie County

Things are looking up in the construction business, but not very far up.
The Associated General Contractors of America reports that 56 of the nation’s 337 metropolitan areas added construction jobs between August 2009 and August 2010. That’s the biggest improvement since September 2008.
Unfortunately, Erie County wasn’t one of the metro areas that saw an improvement.
Pennsylvania measures construction employment in a sector that also includes logging and mining. Employment in that sector fell by 200 jobs or 5 percent in Erie County during the 12-month period that ended in August.
Ken Simonson, the association’s chief economist, said it appears the worst is finally over.
He added, “The fact remains, however, that the industry has a long way to go before we see construction employment back to pre-recession levels.”
