Accents by the Bay, a downtown gift shop located at 27 W. Fifth St., is closing after four years in business.
The business, which features art work, jewelry, fragrances, candles and home décor items, began discounting merchandise on Monday.
In an e-mail sent to customers, owners Judy Tucci and Barbara Corbett, said, “After much consideration, we have made the decision to close our store.”
The two woman told the Erie Times-News in an October interview that they expected the holiday shopping season would be difficult.
“I think people are trying to put food on their table and pay their bills, “ Tucci said. “Maybe luxury items aren’t selling as well as they were.”
Many of those luxury items have now been marked down 20 or 30 percent as the owners begin the process of selling off their remaining merchandise and store fixtures.
