How many texts is your teen sending each day? 60, says study

The Pew Research Center just released its latest survey of cell phone use among teenagers. It shows the median number of texts sent by teens today is 60, just 10 texts a day more than in 2009. The survey also shows broad use of smartphones among teens, particularly those 14 to 17 years of age.
Here are some key points from the survey, which was released Monday:
– Overall, 75 percent of teens text, the study says.
– Older girls remained the most enthusiastic texters, according to the study, with a median of 100 texts a day in 2011, compared with 50 for boys the same age.

– About 23 percent of all those ages 12-17 say they have a smartphone. Ownership is highest among older teens: 31 percent of those ages 14-17 have a smartphone, compared with just 8 percent of youth ages 12-13.
