150 temporary employees dismissed as new call center closes

Less than a week after dismissing 150 temporary employees, William McCarthy said his plans to establish a major call center in Erie remain alive.

McCarthy, who had established a call center on the second floor of the former Griswold Plaza post office, said he shut the operation down Friday when it became apparent that he couldn’t come to terms on a lease with the owner of the property.

In early June, McCarthy, an Erie native who was a former owner of Erie Computer, outlined his plans to create 1,100 local jobs in the next year, including 640 by the end of September.

McCarthy, owner of eDialMarketing LLC., said this afternoon that he hopes to reopen at another location within a few weeks.
