Erie has a new union.
Thirty-eight registered nurses at Select Specialty Hospital — Erie voted Thursday to unionize. The bargaining unit will be affiliated with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
The vote, which was not unanimous, follows a few months of organizing activity, said David Henderson, director of District Council 85 of AFSCME. The new group will spend the next few weeks meeting with union officials, after which they will begin negotiating a contract with the hospital.
