The second-run movies now showing at Cinemark Millcreek 6 might be some of the last to light up the screens at the dollar theater on Millcreek Mall property.
Texas-based Cinemark Holdings Inc. plans to close the six-sceen theater by the end of next week, said Joe Bell, spokesman for the Cafaro Co., which owns the mall.
Bell said he was unaware of a reason for closing the theater, which first opened in 1986.
Cinemark, the third largest movie theater company in the United States with 3,925 screens in 39 states, did not return phone calls seeking comment.
An employee at the theater, which showed new releases in its earlier years of operation, said she was not authorized to comment.
Bell said the mall’s property division will be looking for possible tenants for the space. Options include another theater operator, but other ideas also are being considered, he said.
