The ski center at Peek’n Peak Resort and Spa is opening Sunday morning.
Brad Gravink, director of mountain operations, said he expects nine trails and three lifts to be open for skiers and snowboarders when the center opens at 8:30 a.m.
“We’re counting on the storm to help us,” he said this afternoon, referring to the heavy snow that is in the forecast for Friday into Saturday.
Mother Nature hasn’t been much of a help up to this point, however.
Peek’n Peak personel have been trying to make snow off and on for two weeks only to have much of their work washed away by rain or melted away by unseasonably warm temperatures.
Gravink said they are making snow today and hope to get a lot of snow tomorrow.
“We’re committed to Sunday,” he said.
The Christmas/New Year’s holiday week is typically one of the best weeks of the season for skiing.
New to the ski center this year is a bag jump and renovated rooms in the lodge.
