Unemployment edged up one-tenth of a percentage point in Erie County, climbing to a seasonally adjusted rate of 7.8 percent in December.
The increase was far more dramatic in Crawford County, where the rate jumped from 7.6 to 8.0 percent, according to numbers released this morning by the state Department of Labor & Industry.
The number of unemployed people in Erie County jumped from 10,100 to 11,300. Part of that increase was offset by a decline of 700 people in the civilian labor force.
For the third month in a row, manufacturing employment in Erie County held steady at 22,000.
In Crawford County, the ranks of the unemployed grew from 3,000 to 3,400.
