The most attractive car in the eyes of a thief isn’t a car at all. It’s a truck and a big one at that.
The Ford F-250, a stiff-springed, heavy-duty truck that’s popular with farmers, construction crews and folks with RVs or horse trailers to tow, is the favorite target of U.S. car thieves, according to a report from the Highway Loss Data Institute.
The F-250 bumped the Cadillac Escalade from its previous ranking as the most desirable target for thieves.
And while mid-sized sedans once figured prominently on such lists, car thieves apparently don’t place a premium on fuel economy.
The other most-stolen vehicles rounding out the top 5 were the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 crew cab, the Chevrolet Avalanche 1500, the GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab and the Ford F-350.
