Republican John Vernon, of Mansfield (Tioga County), Pa., is campaigning in Erie today ahead of his planned mid-September announcement that he will be running for U.S. Senate in 2012.

Vernon, 51, a retired U.S. Army colonel, said he is on a “listening tour” that includes his first trip here.

“I believe that to be a good legislator, you have to be a good listener,” he said during a visit to the Erie Times-News.

Vernon, a fiscal and social conservative, was accompanied by his wife, Diana Vernon, and Verel Salmon, chairman of the Erie County Republican Party.

Vernon will be seeking U.S. Sen. Bob Casey’s seat.

How can you be a fical as well as a social conservative? It seems to me that is an impossibility.

  2. Darlene Johanson says:

I am glad there will be a challenger to Bob Casey, He is as big a disappointment as his buddy Obama..

Casey left Pennsylvania for Washington and never looked backed except to fund raise…He hung out with San Fran Nancy and never missed an opportunity to be in lens shot of any obama “Propaganda” speech…

He doesn’t want to be Pennsylvania unless he needs those “Stupid God and Gun Clingers” to Sent him back to Washington….

I am sick of being played by Democrats and the media…

I would campaign, make calls, vote, and send money to ANY Body who Runs against “Big Washington Casey”
