Current deputy Boga to run for Erie County sheriff

Randy Boga, a deputy sheriff in Erie County for the past 13 years, has announced his candidacy for county sheriff.Boga, 45, told the Erie Times-News that he will seek the Democratic nomination for sheriff in the May 21 municipal primary. He is the first announced candidate for the post; current Sheriff Bob Merski, who was first elected in 1997, is not expected to seek another term.“I want to see this office become more community oriented,” Boga said this morning. “It’s time for a change in leadership.”
A Boga campaign kickoff is planned this evening at VFW Post 470, 1808 W. 26th St. The event begins at 5 p.m.
