It will be colleague vs. colleague in the May 21 municipal primary when it comes to the Democratic nomination for Erie County sheriff.
John Loomis, a captain in the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, announced his candidacy today in Courtroom H at the Erie County Courthouse. Loomis was surrounded by about 100 supporters, including friends, family and co-workers. Many wore red and white “Loomis for Sheriff” shirts, and his boss, current Sheriff Bob Merski, publicly endorsed Loomis, 53, for the job.
A county employee since 1980, Loomis will square off against colleague and fellow Democrat Randy Boga, a deputy sheriff in Erie County for the past 13 years, in the primary.
It should be an interesting race. Thoughts, people?
