More candidates apply for Wesleyville mayor

Wesleyville Borough’s search for an interim mayor just got more interesting.

Two more candidates have submitted their names for consideration, including Edward Rickrode, the mayoral nominee on both the Democratic and Republican tickets, borough Manager Peter Nye said today.

A former Wesleyville councilwoman, Gail Dotson-Brown, has also expressed interest in the job.

On Friday, the only candidate was Paul Bills, who lost to Rickrode in the May 21 Democratic municipal primary for the mayoral job that will take effect Jan. 6.

Rickrode is virtually assured election Nov. 5 because he not only won his party’s nomination, but the GOP nomination, too, with 13 write-in votes.

So even if Rickrode is not named mayor, he’ll likely just have to wait six more months to get the job.

If you are interested, know this: Being the mayor of Wesleyville is a service job because it doesn’t pay anything.

Candidates must submit their interest in the job before 4 p.m. on July 8. Send a letter of intent and any other relevant documents to the borough secretary, 3421 Buffalo Road, Erie, PA 16510.

Nye is also the borough secretary and treasurer.

Wesleyville is seeking a temporary mayor after E. Paul Johnson II didn’t seek another term and submitted his resignation, effective Wednesday.

Johnson wants to spend more time with his family and travel with his wife.
