Auditor General Eugene DePasquale had made it clear before.
But he reaffirmed Tuesday to the Erie Times-News Editorial Board that he will not be running for governor in 2014.
DePasquale, a Democrat, said he had made a commitment to the voters not to run so soon after winning the auditor general’s election in 2012.
One of the duties of the job is to audit the governor’s office. And DePasquale said that auditing Gov. Tom Corbett’s office and running against him could be seen as politicizing the audit.
DePasquale said he will run for re-election in 2016.
But he didn’t rule out a future run for governor.
“I’ve ruled it out for 2014,” he said.
