Erie County’s Voter Registration Office has rejected two nominating petitions from former County Councilman Ebert G. Beeman, who wants to run as an Independent in the Nov. 5 municipal election.

Beeman’s brother, Bart Beeman, said in an e-mail to the Times-News today that he tried dropping off paperwork, on his brother’s behalf, on Monday for Waterford Township auditor and Erie County Council’s 6th District seat — the seat Beeman held before a judge ruled that his 2012 felony fraud conviction disqualified him from holding public office.

Both Erie County Clerk of Elections Doug Smith and a senior election clerk in the Voter Registration Office, Patty Messenger, spoke with Bart Beeman on Monday and refused to accept the petitions, Smith said today.

The Erie County Board of Elections considers Beeman ineligible to run for public office because of his fraud conviction.
