Romney redux?

Mitt Romney for president — again — in 2016?

It’s unlikely, but the 2012 GOP presidential nominee is not without his share of support.

There’s been some buzz about Romney redux, though Romney said that U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., his 2012 running mate, should make his own run for the Oval Office in 2016. That’s what Romney said during their joint appearance on Fox News, according to The Hill.

Ryan reportedly said he’d like to see Romney run for president again, though the former Massachusetts governor has ruled it out repeatedly. It would be Romney’s third run for the office.

But a Suffolk University/USA Today poll that surveyed races in North Carolina shows that Romney would dominate the GOP field in that state if he changed his mind. The poll surveyed likely voters in this year’s general election.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, with 18 percent, was the top choice of Republican and GOP-leaning independents followed by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, with 11 percent.

But when Romney was put into the hypothetical field, he got 39 percent of those surveyed, followed by 14 percent for Huckabee and 10 percent for Bush.

On the Democratic side, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton got 57 percent of registered Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents. She was followed by Vice President Joe Biden, 15 percent, and U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., 9 percent.

It’s just one state, but still ….
