Is paying for a credit card a good choice?

I mentioned earlier this week that my new airline credit card helped me get a $10 round trip by plane between Erie and Oklahoma.

I got the card in anticipation of that trip and also because there was no fee for the first year. After that, the card will cost $95 a year to keep. I’ve never had a credit card that charged me such a fee before because I’ve never wanted to pay it. But I’m thinking of doing so this time.

Besides earning me air miles that I can redeem for free flights, the card also gets me one free checked bag per flight. That saved me $25 on the way to Oklahoma and another $25 on the way home.

I usually take three to four trips by air each year. At $25 each way, that’s $150 to $200 a year spent on checked luggage. So $95 for a credit card that gets me a free checked bag is still a savings.

What do you think? Should I keep the card?
