Caution can keep you from losing your cash

The Better Business Bureau of Western Pennsylvania sent out some tips on how to avoid getting burned by unscrupulous heating contractors. But they’re also good to keep in mind when selecting any kind of contractor. Like with any business, there are some great contractors out there and there are some who are out to take your money. Being cautious can save you cash and heartache in the long run.

Here are some of the Better Business Bureau suggestions:

Check with the BBB to see if a contractor you are considering has a business review on file at www.bbb.org. You can look for the contractor’s BBB rating, complaint activity and other information.

Solicit at least two or three bids. Make sure they are in writing and include a full description of services to be provided.

Read and understand the contract before signing it and get a copy for yourself.

Ask in advance about trip or diagnostic fees that could cost you money before any work is even done.
