Recreation Day offers free fun at peninsula

Presque Isle State Park is hosting a Winter Recreation Day on Saturday where you can learn about ice fishing, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

The event is free unless you need to rent skis. Fishing equipment and snowshoes will be available to borrow, organizers said.

The recreation day will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rotary Pavilion, with snowshoe hikes leaving at 10 and 1 and cross-country skiing at 11. If the pond isn’t frozen or there isn’t enough snow on the ground, regular fishing and hikes will take place, organizers said.
