Charter Day brings free Maritime Museum admission

In celebration of Pennsylvania’s 332nd birthday, numerous Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission sites are offering free admission on Sunday. That includes the Erie Maritime Museum.

The museum on Erie’s bayfront at 150 E. Front St. will be open Sunday for free from noon to 5 p.m., officials said.

Charter Day celebrates the establishment of Pennsylvania in 1681, the year that King Charles II of England gave William Penn the charter for the land that became the commonwealth.

According to the PHMC’s website, other sites open for free on Sunday will include Drake Well Museum in Titusville. For the list of sites offering free admission or more information about Charter Day, go to www.phmc.state.pa.us or call (717) 772-3257.
