Presque Isle programs examine Perry’s fleet, sailor’s life

Perry’s fleet and a sailor’s life will be the topic of two free programs Saturday at Presque Isle State Park.

“The Construction of Perry’s Fleet,” from 10 to 11 a.m., will focus on the importance of Presque Isle during the War of 1812 and how Perry’s fleet was built, organizers said.

“Life of a Sailor,” from 1 to 2 p.m., will share information about the challenging conditions the crew had to endure aboard the U.S. Brig Niagara, organizers said.

Both programs are free, for all ages, and participants should meet at the Perry Monument.
