Free fishing gear for kids to use at Presque Isle

Free bait and equipment will available for children to use to fish Saturday at Presque Isle State Park on the first day of trout season.

The park is teaming with the S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie, state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and BAC Bait and Tackle for the event from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rotary Pavilion.

The floating platform at the nearby East Waterworks Pond will be a kids-only fishing area for children of all ages, organizers said. Non-fishing adult supervisors and people with disabilities also will be allowed there, officials said. Children age 16 and older must have a fishing license.

Call the park at (814) 833-7424 or visit to learn more.
