Here’s a way to get some free seeds this year.

Burt’s Bees is giving away packs of wildflower seeds to benefit the bees in your neighborhood.

To request a free pack, go to http://www.burtsbees.com/w/wild-bees/ and click on “get seeds.” The first several times I visited the site, the “get seeds” button didn’t show up for me. But I persisted and finally was able to ask for a pack. You’re allowed one per U.S. household, while supplies last.

According to the McDonald’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mcdonalds, the new Quarter Pounders are buy one, get one through Thursday. The site doesn’t say you need a coupon to take advantage of the deal.

I remember that a similar deal, but maybe with a coupon, was how my mother and I tried the McDonald’s Angus Burgers a number of years ago. We tried the burgers once with the discount and decided we didn’t really care for them. At least we didn’t have to pay full price to come to that conclusion. That’s one of the reasons I love coupons, samples and freebies — they let you try new things for free or less than the regular price.

The free Wednesday evening concerts on Beach 1 run through July 17. The music begins each week at 6 p.m.

Hershey’s has a sweepstakes running through Aug. 31 that is giving away 2,000 of the gift cards.

To enter, go to www.hersheys.com/dollargeneral and click on “enter now.” You then click to play and if all three ingredients needed to make a s’more are revealed, you’re a winner. I only got marshmallows and Hershey’s bars, no graham crackers.

But at least I found out immediately that I hadn’t won and can go back and try again daily.

The site doesn’t give details about the sample, like size or how long it will take to arrive.

I remember getting some sample-size packs of Woolite years ago but I don’t remember where from. I do remember, however, that the packets were good for taking in my suitcase to use when I traveled and also came in handy when I needed to wash a piece of clothing in a sink rather than waiting until I had a full load of dirty clothes for the washing machine.

Friends and I strolled through a doll store in Chicago last year and some of the doll clothing and shoes cost as much as or more than I spend on my own dresses and footwear.

I remember that several of the outfits I put on my dolls were ones that my mother had saved after either I or my brothers outgrew them.

Garage and rummage sales that sell baby clothes could also be a place to purchase inexpensive outfits to put on dolls.
