The Tom Ridge Environmental Center’s new AAUW Education Pavilion will be the site of a free concert Saturday.

The Crossroads of America Scout Band is scheduled to perform at 5 p.m. outside the center, 301 Peninsula Drive, Millcreek Township, according to a news release. Organizers said to take your own lawn chair to sit on.

Friend Nancy and I went to last night’s free concert by the U.S. Army Field Band’s Concert Band and Soldiers’ Chorus at Liberty Park in Erie.

The show, part of the Perry 200 Commemoration, was great. The musicians and singers performed a nice variety of songs.

Even if you missed the concert, you can still hear the band and chorus for free.

Go to www.armyfieldband.com and click on “Listening Room.” There you’ll find about 25 songs by the band and chorus that you can listen to or download at no cost. The site also has free music featuring the Army Field Band’s other musical groups.

While I was excited to find the free downloads, I was disappointed that the one number I was really looking for wasn’t there. The concert featured a really great performance of one of my favorite poems, “Casey at the Bat,” set to music. Unfortunately, it’s not available on the website. But there are still plenty of good songs there.
