Big Lots Inc. is honoring the men and women in our Armed Forces with a discount day on Saturday.

If you show a valid military identification card, you’ll get 10 percent off your entire purchase. That includes sale and clearance items. There are some exclusions, such as gift cards.

The deal is good at Big Lots nationwide. To learn more or find a store near you, visit www.biglots.com.

When I was learning to drive, I asked my dad to show me how to change a tire. He bought me a AAA membership instead.

I’ve had one ever since. For me, the annual fee is worth it. Membership means I’m just a phone call away from getting a flat tire fixed, a dead battery jumped or a broken vehicle towed. Plus there are the numerous maps and travel books I get each year for trips. And what I consider the biggest advantage — the money my membership saves me on hotel/motel rates.

The AAA room discount is the feature most people are probably familiar with. But there are other financial benefits.

Your AAA card gets you a 10 percent discount on non-sale items at Payless Shoe Source stores. That means the $10 flip-flops I bought last week for an upcoming trip to Las Vegas were only $9. Maybe that dollar I saved will be the lucky one that wins me a fortune in a slot machine!

A new cantina and grille is serving up a discount for some of its downtown Erie neighbors.

Senor Coyotes offers 10 percent off when you present your Erie Insurance, Gannon University or UPMC Hamot ID card Monday through Friday until 4 p.m., according to the website at www.senorcoyotes.com.

The eatery at 319 State St. is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with the bar open an hour later on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday and until 2 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday.

Anyone know of any other discounts you can get based on where you work or go to school?
