Did your kids go crazy when the U.S. men’s hockey team beat Russia in a shootout at the Olympics? Have they turned your living room into a rink, skating around in their socks and knocking over lamps with brooms filling in for hockey sticks?
Whether you think you have a future Olympian or just have a child who wants to play, you’ll want to investigate Try Hockey for Free Day.
USA Hockey and local programs around the country are giving children ages 4 to 9 the chance to try youth hockey on March 1. Coaches will be present to teach hockey basics and a limited amount of equipment will be available for children to use.
The Try Hockey for Free website at www.tryhockeyforfree.com has a map of participating locations and it includes Erie’s JMC Ice Arena, 423 W. 38th St. Visit the site to learn more or register a child.
For more information, contact your local rink, USA Hockey at (719) 538-1124 or ComePlayYouthHockey@usahockey.org.
