Penn State Behrend will host a free program this week to help you with your personal financial plans.

“Money Matters” will take place Thursday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Room 180 of the Jack Burke Research and Economic Development Center, 5101 Station Road, Harborcreek Township.

The program offers what organizers called “unbiased financial advice without the pressure of a sales event.” Behrend’s Center for Financial & Consumer Outreach is offering the event, along with the Pennsylvania Securities Commission and AARP.

Sessions will teach participants how to develop or enhance a personal financial plan and how to avoid fraud. Each participant also will receive a free investor education toolkit.

Adam Davidson and Alex Blumberg of NPR’s Planet Money will give a free talk Tuesday at Penn State Behrend about the current economic crisis.

Their program, “Planet Money LIVE: The Economy, Explained” will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Behrend’s Samuel P. “Pat” Black III Conference Center in the Jack Burke Research and Economic Development Center on the Harborcreek Township campus.

The talk will include a human, humorous look at where the economic crisis is leading, according to a news release.

That’s the topic of a free Financial Literacy Workshop this week in North East.

St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church will host the session Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the church, 1500 Freeport Road, North East, Pa.

The workshop will feature Salvador Parco, financial literacy educator for the Education, Training & Community division of the Greater Erie Community Action Committee.

Light refreshments will be served.
