More than 20 years ago I won a poetry contest and my family (parents, two brothers and two grandparents) drove to Pittsburgh for the awards reception, where the food included these awesome smiley-faced cookies. They were so good we kept going back for more and I think my grandmother even snuck a couple out in her purse.

We later found out they were Smiley cookies, what was then a new offering from the Pittsburgh-based Eat ‘n Park restaurant chain. My family is still fans of Smiley but it wasn’t until blog reader Kathy L. wrote in that I knew about Smiley’s e-mail club.

Kathy said that if you go to Eat ‘n Park’s website and sign up for the club, you get coupons via e-mail. The most recent was for 20 percent off dine-in or take-out at the restaurant, she said.

To sign up, visit www.eatnpark.com. Under Quick Links, choose Smiley Central and then click on “subscribe” under Email Club. The site says that besides regular e-mail deals, you’ll get a gift for joining, one for your birthday and another for your anniversary if you’re married.
