Because a quarterback said “hut” in Sunday’s Super Bowl, you can score one of Pizza Hut’s new offerings for free.

Pizza Hut is giving away one Big Pizza Slider per customer today from 4 to 7 p.m. No purchase is necessary and the freebie is good for dine-in or carryout, according to Pizza Hut’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/PizzaHut.

The sliders appear to be miniature pizzas, about 3 1/2 inches in diameter. They come with up to three toppings and sell for nine for $10.

Two Erie-area Pizza Huts that I checked with said they are participating. I find it’s usually a good idea to call your local store or restaurant to make sure it’s taking part in a giveaway before showing up to get your freebie.

Heads or tails? Pick the correct outcome of the coin toss at this year’s Super Bowl and it will win you a free pizza from Papa John’s.

To vote for heads or tails in Papa John’s Super Bowl XLVII Coin Toss Experience, go to www.papajohnscointoss.com. Voting ends Feb. 2 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time and you have to be at least 13 years old to vote, according to the site.

Entrants who correctly call the coin toss will receive an e-mail on Feb. 4 with a promo code for a free large one-topping pizza, the site says. The code can only be redeemed at Papajohns.com and expires March 10, according to the official rules.

After voting, I already received one promo code that was good for 35 percent off any large pizza at Papajohns.com through Feb. 2.

Where were you when the pizza bomber plot played out on upper Peach Street back in 2003?

Where will you be tonight?

If you’ve spent the past nine years following the fascinating infamous Erie case, you might want to head to Gannon University tonight.

Retired FBI agent and current Gannon professor Jerry Clark and Erie Times-News reporter Ed Palattella, one of my co-workers, wrote “Pizza Bomber: The Untold Story of America’s Most Shocking Bank Robbery.” If you have a copy of the new book, they’ll sign it for free tonight at 7 p.m. in the Yehl Ballroom at Gannon’s Waldron Campus Center, 124 W. Seventh St.

On Saturday from 1-3 p.m., they’ll be at Werner Books, 3514 Liberty St.
