Last night, Amanda and I stopped by Danny’s Restaurant and Lounge at 5653 Peach St. This small, ten table restaurant is hidden in plain sight on one of the busiest streets in Erie. I’ve never been there for dinner, but when I got a recommendation to try their cake and pie, I figured that it was a good reason for a first visit. The restaurant was about half full when I arrived. The only homemade dessert they had on the menu that night was their chocolate peanut butter pie. Their desserts change quite often and they also have a few locally purchased desserts that they sell. I got a slice of the pie to go and made our way home.

After we finished dinner, we dug right into the pie. The peanut butter pie filling wasn’t as smooth as some of the others that we have tried in the last few weeks, but that didn’t make a difference. It was great. The filling was creamy, rich, but not overly so, and drizzled with some plain chocolate syrup. On the side was a dollop of fantastic whipped cream. The crust was my favorite part. It was a crumb crust, but it wasn’t crunchy like most of the others. It had a caramel-like chew to it and was quite firm. The chewiness of the crust mixed with the creamy filling made for a delicious treat.

The number for reservations and information is 814-868-4486. Reservations are recommended due to limited space. Danny’s hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 5 to 9:30 p.m.

Next week will be my final wrap-up and review of the cake and pie that I was able to taste. I wish you and your families a happy, healthy, and safe holiday.

Keep sending me your recommendations for food categories and locations to akochirka@goerie.com or to the Beard Vs. Food Facebook. Remember to come back and vote as well.

Until next time,
