My favorites overall were (in no particular order):
Chuck Norris, Papa Joe’s Pepperoni Café – The Mediterranean flavors of this sandwich really set it apart.
Hot Cuban and The Bub’s Dread, Summer House Café – These two sandwiches are both fantastic twists on some great classics.
Winner and Still Chompion and the Reuben, Gerry’s 8th Street Deli – I have yet to have a bad sandwich from Gerry’s. There are a lot more things that I would like to try so I will be returning soon.
Filet Croissant, Calamari’s – A delicious steak sandwich, outdoor seating and fantastic service. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Any sandwich at Steel 12 including the Pittsburgh Nitemare and the Pittsburgh Style Steak and Cheese – From Steel City on Peach St. to Steel 12 downtown, they know a thing or two about sandwiches.
Maybe just having the subject as “sandwiches” was too general. If there is a sandwiches round two, I will probably narrow it down to a specific type of sandwich. I enjoyed most of my stops and I will be returning to some of them to try more from the menu.
The next eight weeks of my Erie food tour will be filled with various summer food stops. I think this one might be a little harder to fill two months, but I’m counting on you all to help me out. My ideas for this were ice cream shops, desserts in general, grill specials, ethnic festivals, places with summer only outdoor seating and maybe even a blind hot dog taste test. Please continue to make suggestions here or send e-mails letting me know where you think I should go.
Until next time,
