Cinemark’s Classic Film Series features “The Searchers” on Wednesday. If you haven’t seen it, go ahead and splurge. It’s directed by a master — John Ford — and set in spectacular Western locales with big skies and endless plains. And though it’s technically a Western, it’s not, really. The story involves John Wayne and his nephew tracking Wayne’s niece, over a span of years, after she was abducted by Comanche Indians. The family wants her back, no matter what; Wayne isn’t quite so sure. What if she’s now more like a Comanche? That said, there’s a lot of humor in the film, especially the interplay between Wayne and Jeffrey Hunter.
That same night, the Film at the Erie Art Museum series will continue with “Amelie,” a quirky romantic comedy that’s quite funny and affecting.
