A little Hagar, don’t miss Melissa, concert update

Meat Loaf will welcome a special guest for his 35th anniversary concert for “Bat Out of Hall” on Wednesday at Cleveland’s State Theatre.
Sammy Hagar has announced he’ll make a special appearance at the concert. Take that, Van Halen. Tickets are on sale via www.livenation.com and (216) 241-6000.

Good seats remain available for Melissa Etheridge, who plays the Warner Theatre on Tuesday. Tickets are $34.50, not bad for concerts these days, especially someone of her stature. This is an evening with, which means no opener and more Melissa. And it means you’ll get home earlier on a week night. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Crooked I has some excellent shows coming up. Don’t miss Waylon Speed and Falling Hollywood on Friday. Waylon’s “Valance” is full of killer songs, especially the Neil Young inspired “Livin.’” On Sunday, Daniel Ellsworth and the Great Lakes play. Their album “Civilized Man” made Amazon.com’s list of the Top 100 albums released in 2011. And it’s great stuff: savvy pop with hints of Talking Heads, Wilco, Elvis Costello and more.

Train’s “50 Ways to Say Goodbye” jumps to No. 24 from No. 28 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and inches up to No. 4 on the Adult Pop chart. So, it’s a hit, if not as big as “Drive-By,” the first single from “California 37.”

The Rolling Stones will play the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. on Dec. 13 and 15. Tickets go on sale Oct. 26. They’ll be pricey. A tour is supposedly coming in 2013, but we’ll see about that. On the other hand, I can’t imagine the Stones skipping Chicago during their 50th anniversary hoopla. They LOVE that city.
