Weekend round up; Bret Michaels at Conneaut Lake Park

TGIF, and not only because the weekend’s here. It’s here with Town Pants tonight at the Crooked I.

I’ve seen these guys at the Great Blue Heron Music Festival in Sherman, N.Y., and at the Crooked I a bunch of times, and it’s always a blast. They play hearty, supercharged Celtic rock with plenty of fiddle, banjo, mandolin and tin whistle. They play fun songs you don’t even really need to know to sing along; you just pick up the chorus and go.

If you want a taste of what they look like live, check out a clip of them performing at the 2012 Great Blue Heron:

Elsewhere, there’s a lot going on. If you’re ready to start the weekend early, Geek Army plays today at Coconut Joe’s starting at 6 p.m. Jake Banta and old buddy Rick Magee team up for an unplugged set today at 6 p.m. at the Cell Block.

Weather should be nice on Saturday, making it an ideal night to see Ron Yarsoz and the Vehicle at Lakeview Wine Cellars in North East. That’s a fantastic spot; the band is equally good. Another scenic place: Harbor View Grill, at 3730 Harbor Ridge Trail. Tom Hitt plays there today at 7 p.m.; Tommy Link performs Saturday at 7 p.m. Saturday also brings the first Romolo Chocolate Music Series event with guest violinist Christian Howes teaming up with JD Jazz at 6 p.m.The Groove are at Sloppy Duck on Saturday; Rage Against the Machine tribute Renegades of Funk will tear it up at Sherlock’s on Saturday.

On Sunday, don’t forget about Daniel Ellsworth and the Great Lakes, who return to Crooked I.

This just in: Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox Twenty will team up at Blossom Music Center on Aug. 22. Tickets will go on sale June 21 at www.livenation.com.

This just out: If you were planning on seing Ke$ha in Cleveland on Aug. 9 at Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica, forget it. That show has been cancelled so she can play in Windsor, Ont., instead.

If you can’t wait to see Bret Michaels perform at CelebrateErie in August, you can catch him at Conneaut Lake Park outside the Beach Club on July 7. Rick & Jack and Repeat Offenders will open. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 advance, available at www.hotelconneaut.com and at (814) 213-0120.

That will complete a big rock weekend at Conneaut Lake Park. Rusted Root plays there on July 4, and the Outlaws roll in on July 5. Advance tickets are $18 each for those.

Presque Isle Parrothead Club will present a Sunset Happy Hour on the Sunset Terrace of the Bayfront Convention Center on July 3. Key West Express will play at the tropical-themed party. Proceeds will benefit Relay for Life of West County.
