Fans of New Orleans music with a lot of horns, especially fat, thumping funk that makes you want to hit the dance floor, listen up.
You’ll be in your glory at 8 Great Tuesdays today at Liberty Park.
Big Sam’s Funky Party will bring the funk, and then some. Band leader Big Sam Williams formerly played in the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. This group is way more commercial, favoring hard-hitting funk to jazz-flavored explorations.
All the better for dancing, though, as you’ll see in this clip from Gathering of the Vibes for “Funky Donkey” from YouTube. To see it, click here.
Ron Yarosz and the Vehicle will open; don’t miss them, either. Show starts at 6:30 p.m.
Good news for movie fans: One of 2013′s most acclaimed films to date, “Fruitvale Station,” will open Friday at Tinseltown. It portrays the last day of his life and is reportedly pretty powerhouse stuff.
“The To Do List” and “The Way Way Back” (along with “The Wolverine”) also open.
By the way, a film that didn’t play Tinseltown will screen at Film at the Erie Art Museum on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Terrence Malick’s “To the Wonder” with Ben Affleck will play. Roger Ebert, in his last published review before his death, gave the film four stars.
No word yet on when tickets for Rascal Flatts and the Band Perry will go on sale; they play the renovated Erie Insurance Arena on Oct. 17.
