Black Flag tonight at Crooked I; Portugal. the Man’s latest CD

Reminder: Legendary California punk band Black Flag, led by guitarist Greg Ginn, roars into the Crooked I tonight at 8. Rolling Stone named Ginn as one of rock’s 100 best guitarists, while the band built a bridge between punk and hardcore that has influenced countless bands. “Damaged” is their best.

Good for You, Ginn’s more experimental side band, will open the show. Tickets are $25 at the door, if available.

More good shows roll into Crooked I later this week, including Celtic rockers the Town Pants from Vancouver on Friday. Look for an interview with them in Thursday’s Showcase. Erie’s the LEC plays a CD release show at CI on Saturday, then Nashville’s Daniel Ellsworth and the Great Lakes return on Sunday. If you like early Elvis Costello, played with urgency and abandon, you’ll like these guys.

I’m addicted to Portugal. The Man’s new CD, “Evil Friends.” So much so, in fact, I’m writing a Good Morning column for Wednesday about it. The play Buffalo’s Town Ballroom on Wednesday night, then Cleveland’s House of Blues on Thursday. I’m still not sure if I’m going to either one; it’ll be a last-second call. I did see them in 2012 at Town Ballroom, and getting up the next day for work was no fun.

Portugal. The Man just played on “The Jimmy Fallon Show:”

On Wednesday, look for an updated list of concerts, including shows by Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, John Fogerty and Joe Satriani.
