DPI: Sun down to sun up

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone, and the weather is heating up for the rest of the Discover Presque Isle weekend. Here’s an overview of the weekend so far:

Dig Off

98 contestants dug in the sand to find yo-yo’s hidden by sponsor County 98. Jim O’Neal, 47, of North East Township was the biggest winner, hear about his big win in this Erie Times-News story.

Beach Illumination

Yesterday, Discover Presque Isle ended with a Beach Illumination on Sunset Point.

Organized and set up by “just a bunch of people that come together and have fun,” the Illumination started at dusk, lit by the same people who display their handmade kites on Sunset Point.

More of an experience that a sight to see, the Illumination featured glow sticks and lanterns lining pathways between illuminated fixtures in the sand. Check out all Beach Illumination at Sunset Point photos in our gallery.

Mile Swim

This morning, swimmers woke early to jump in the choppy waves off of Beach 10 for a mile swim. In open water, the swim is more difficult than if done in pool.

Did you swim the mile? Check out the action in our Mile Swim gallery, and see if you can spot yourself in the crowd. Have your own photos? Post on GoErie.com/StreetView, and browse our user-submitted gallery to see who else has posted.
