Jerry Uht Park’s new left-field wall wasn’t the only ominous presence the Erie SeaWolves experienced Thursday.

Buck Britton, the Bowie Baysox’s lead-off batter, helped spoil the SeaWolves’ 2012 Eastern League home opener. The left fielder recorded five hits, scored one run and drove in another as part of the visitors’ 6-1 victory.

Erie dropped to 2-4 before 3,978 fans, some of whom filtered over to adjacent Tullio Arena for the Erie BayHawks’ NBA D-League playoff game that took place at the same time. The SeaWolves and BayHawks conspired to allow fans who purchased a ticket for either game to get into the other for free.

Nobody bounced a home run against Uht Park’s new 33-foot wall, but the Baysox (3-5) still did plenty of damage off Erie starter Jay Voss (0-2) and four relievers. Brandon Waring complimented Britton with three hits and two RBIs for a Bowie team that doubled up Erie 16-8 in the former category.

Erie’s lone run was against Baysox starter Jacob Petit (1-0). Bryan Pounds led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a double, and Rob Brantly immediately followed with a single.

Pounds and Brantly each finished with two hits.
