Home runs in penultimate innings helped the Trenton Thunder beat the Erie SeaWolves twice Wednesday.

Cody Johnson hit a solo home run, his Eastern League-leading 13th, in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Thunder a 4-3 victory. Johnson’s homer accounted for the only offense after the completion of Tuesday’s suspended game, which was halted by rain in the top of the fifth.

Wednesday’s regularly scheduled game, shortened to seven innings, also was decided by a homer during Trenton’s last at-bats. Kevin Mahoney was the hero for the hosts, as his solo shot in the bottom of the sixth was the difference in their 3-2 win.

The SeaWolves’ two losses left them 25-26, with Trenton now 28-22. The teams conclude their series Thursday at 7:05 p.m.

Former SeaWolves pitcher Casey Crosby will make his Major League Baseball debut with the parent Detroit Tigers Friday. Crosby, who began this season with the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens, was summoned to replace the injured Doug Fister.

The SeaWolves and Mud Hens will be matched in an off-the-field manner through the weekend.

Erie’s C. Wolf and Toledo’s Muddy the Mud Hen are currently paired in milb.com’s Mascot Mania contest brackets. Those mascots were among the first-round winners based on online voting by fans.

Second-round voting runs through Monday.
