SeaWolves announce field staff

Chris Cron will become the first manager in Erie SeaWolves history to return for a third season this spring as the Erie SeaWolves announced their field staff. Gerald Perry has been named the hitting coach and Jaime Garcia the pitching coach for the ‘Wolves. Both are in their first year with the Detroit Tigers organization, while Chris McDonald is back for his eighth season as the athletic trainer. Fred Murphy, the strength and conditioning coach, is back for his third season.

Cron, who has managed at every level of minor league baseball over the past 18 years, is the 14th manager in SeaWolves history. He went over 1,000 career wins last summer. Cron, 48, is 124-159 with Erie and needs only 16 wins this season to pass Tom Brookens for most wins in SeaWolves history.

Perry, 52, played part of 13 seasons on the major league level and has been coaching since 2000. He was the hitting coach for several major league teams, including the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2003-05. Perry spent 2012 as the hitting coach for the Pawtucket Red Sox, the AAA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, and will serve as hitting coach for Team USA during the World Baseball Classic next month.

Garcia, 61, has been in the Houston Astros organization over the past six years, including a stint as the pitching coach with the GCL Astros and latin pitching supervisor in 2012. He was the Astros’ minor league pitching coordinator in 2011 and was the assistant pitching coordinator from 2007-10.
