Fantasy focus: Thursday’s starters to target

Daily transaction leagues are gaining in popularity in fantasy baseball. With that in mind, I’ll try to give the best pitchers to start on a given night if you’re looking to stream starters. Here’s a look a Thursday’s games:
AL

Texas (Ogando 2-0) at Chicago Cubs (Villanueva 0-0), 2:20 p.m.
Detroit (Verlander 2-1) at Seattle (Iwakuma 2-0), 3:40 p.m.
Arizona (Corbin 2-0) at N.Y. Yankees (P.Hughes 0-2), 7:05 p.m.
Boston (Lester 2-0) at Cleveland (McAllister 1-1), 7:05 p.m.
Tampa Bay (Price 0-1) at Baltimore (Mig. Gonzalez 1-1), 7:05 p.m.
Chicago White Sox (Sale 1-1) at Toronto (Dickey 1-2), 7:07 p.m.

NL

San Francisco (M.Cain 0-1) at Milwaukee (Gallardo 0-1), 1:10 p.m.
Texas (Ogando 2-0) at Chicago Cubs (Villanueva 0-0), 2:20 p.m.
N.Y. Mets (Niese 2-0) at Colorado (Garland 1-0), 3:10 p.m.
Atlanta (Teheran 0-0) at Pittsburgh (Locke 1-1), 7:05 p.m.
St. Louis (Wainwright 2-1) at Philadelphia (Hamels 0-2), 7:05 p.m.
Miami (Fernandez 0-0) at Cincinnati (Cingrani 0-0), 7:10 p.m.

Here are the players to target:

Must start

Justin Verlander against the Mariners is a no-brainer. … David Price is a must-start as well. … Matt Cain, Adam Wainwright and Cole Hamels also are lineup musts.

Good bet

Jon Lester is a good call against the struggling Indians. … Julio Teheran should get the call against the Pirates. … I like Alexi Ogando against the Cubs if, for no other reason, that they should win.

Neutral

I still like to avoid games at Colorado, but it’s not a bad matchup for the Rockies against the Mets. … I like starting anyone against the Marlins, but untested Tony Cigrani is too much of a risk for me, that also puts Jose Fernandez in the neutral column. … Carlos Villanueva has an 0.64 ERA. Expect it to rise against the Rangers. … Yovani Gallardo is struggling, but he should start to turn things around. I wouldn’t count on their bullpen to help him out. … R.A. Dickey and Chris Sale both have been slow to start the season. I’d wait another start before counting on them.

Avoid

Jeff Locke has a 4.09 ERA, but he faces a tough Braves’ lineup. … I can’t trust Phil Hughes and his 10+ ERA.
