Notes: Erie hit two home runs on Friday to beat Binghamton 5-2. The SeaWolves are now 8-1 this season when hitting more than one home run in a game. … Melvin Mercedes is the new closer in Erie. Although it wasn’t a save situation Saturday, it wasn’t a great start for the young pitcher. A glaring part of Binghamton’s four-run rally in the ninth inning was an error by Eugenio Suarez. He now has 13 errors in 46 games with the SeaWolves. … Jon Link was stellar in his first start with Erie and deserves to be 1-0. He could be a boon for the starting rotation that is dealing with injuries and promotions to Triple-A Toledo. … Erie didn’t lose any ground in the western division race with Harrisburg losing two of three to New Hampshire. … Daniel Fields missed almost two full games after being hit by a pitch. In the fourth inning Saturday, Fields was hit by a pitch that deflected off his hand and hit his chin, splitting it open. He had to leave the game and get stitched up at the hospital and missed Sunday’s game.
