The Detroit Tigers have signed relief pitcher Kelvin Perez to a minor league deal and assigned him to the SeaWolves. Perez, 27, was signed by the New York Yankees as a non-drafted free agent in 2005. He was in his ninth season in the Yankees organization before being released on Tuesday. He started the season with Double-A Trenton and went 0-1 with a 2.87 ERA in nine games with the Thunder. He made one appearance against Erie this year, throwing two scoreless innings in a 6-2 SeaWolves win on April 19. Perez then went to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he went 0-4 with a 9.00 ERA. He started four games and came in relief in four games. Perez was placed on the disabled list on June 5 and was activated 29 days later.
