You’ve gotta love a pitcher with the last name Balfour.
The Baltimore Orioles, who originally were poised to sign Grant Balfour to a two-year, $15 million deal earlier this week, were scared off after his physical.
Balfour had 38 saves and a 2.59 ERA with the Oakland A’s last season. He had 72 strikeouts in 62.2 innings.
Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette did not want to restructure the contract.
Baltimore reportedly will look to former SeaWolves reliever Fernando Rodney.
Despite the O’s cold feet, Balfour could be a steal for some team willing to take a chance.
There were concerns with Francisco Liriano’s health last winter. There were concerns about Mike Napoli’s hip last offseason and he had to take a lesser deal, too.
