Fashion Friday — international women’s day and watch bling

WatchTime marches on and the Google doodle — see below — reminds us today is International Women’s Day. It has been a national holiday since 1918 in some countries. Here’s a link to the official site. Celebrate — we’ve come a long way, baby!

Throughout our history, we’ve had wrist bling from Timex, Bulova, Citizen, Swatch, Omega, Rado, Longines and Rolex — if you are really lucky. At left is a pricey vintage number with a woman front and center — it’s a 1970 Vintage Geneve Wittnauer with cultured pearls in 14kt gold. It’s now worth more than $5,000. If you have  a vintage watch, get it on your wrist! The photo is from the Ross & Simons website. It is one-of-a-kind.

What’s the trend in timepieces?Anything goes. In recent years, wrist bling has gone from chunky and bold to stunning and retro. Here’s a great feature from Squidoo to help you decide what watch is right for you.  My mom’s timepieces ranged from a clock necklace to locket watches to wristwatches with tiny faces that required a magnifying glass to read.

I’ve never seen anything like that $5,000 piece in the picture above, but I remember a cameo piece and other pillbox style pop open watches like this Helzberg. HelzbergsOh, to have kept all the jewelry from family and friends.

Happy International Women’s Day!
