Always losing those readers? Meet the eyehole — an adjustable eyeglass necklace that’s a pretty snazzy fashion accessory. The $25 necklace looks great alone, but it holds reading glasses and sunglasses and comes in a lot of great designs.
The brand was designed by Ann Lightfoot and Kate Berger, a mother-daughter design team — Kate came up with the idea after her mom lost her readers a gazilion times kind of like me! We’ll be giving away a pair in the Aug. 4 issue of Her Times.
Another pair of designing women came up with their own version of readers that double as a headband. I always knew lookie loos as a term for someone who looks at something with no intention of buying it — an old real estate word for people like me (but I do write about houses). Right now, Lookie Lous are a new brand of reading glasses with some clever looking designs that even make great headbands when you’re not looking through them.
Veterans of fashion and design, company founders Kelly Coty and Kristie Chiron met 25 years ago while working in the Los Angeles garment district. After relocating to Nashville and turning 40, Coty, a single mom, discovered that small print and misplaced reading glasses were a common problem. She also discovered her teenage daughter’s headbands were constantly around the house, and in impromptu cleaning, she put the headbands on her head and often mistook them for her reading glasses. In an aha moment, Coty made the prototype for Lookie Lous literally at her kitchen table with the idea that the glasses could double as a headband.
